Power restoration in Yolanda-hit may take 5 to 6 weeks

Just when you think it can’t get any worse, this comes up.

“After the Department of Energy (DOE), National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), and President Noynoy Aquino gathered in a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday night, Nov 12, it was announced that it may take five to six weeks to restore the power transmission lines destroyed by Typhoon Yolanda,” reports ABS-CBN News correspondent Alvin Elchico.

The NGCP has its work cut out for it, as Yolanda toppled 566 structures. That’s 248 towers and 318 poles. According to the report, the NGCP “plans to redesign its towers and put up structures that can take 270 kilometers per hour (kph) wind strength.”
