Believe it or not, these episodes are fairly common in the Philippines. Over the years, there have been so many reports on the subject that it’s now only resorted to on slow news days.
Of course, we still worry about the people involved in these matters. After all, they may be experiencing legitimate health and/or mental problems.
Classes were suspended in Marber National High School in Bansalan, Davao del Sur after students succumbed to mass hysteria, which led to the hospitalization of 35 students from Grade 8 and Grade 10.
A teacher claims that it all began when four students started “acting weird” inside the classroom. They started to scream ang go wild, ABS-CBN News reports.
According to a doctor, the students experienced a case of mass hysteria and hyperventilation.
But, of course, there are those who tag the condition a symptom of “possession.”
Many Filipinos hold on to superstitious beliefs that claim certain spirits live in trees or mounds of earth.
Marber National High School principal Delarey Florentino is probably one of these people, as he ordered the classes suspended. He said that he had ordered the trees inside the premises to be cut last week. He thinks this may have caused “an unwanted disturbance.”
Perhaps, it’s time for the school to call in an ispiritista (rough translation: spirit guide). That is, right after they confirm if there’s an exam is scheduled anytime soon. As we know, most kids are capable of doing crazy things to avoid takings tests. (Just being Devil’s advocates here.)
