Porn sites supposedly banned in the Philippines… but most Filipinos still have access

In an attempt to control the porn consumption habits of Filipinos, President Rodrigo Duterte supposedly implemented a ban on adult websites like PornHub and RedTube.

The President announced the ban after Pornhub released stats saying that Filipinos spent the longest average time on their site at 12 minutes and 45 seconds (probably because of the super slow net in the country).

According to a report by Inquirer.net, “As of Saturday, access to known porn sites such as pornhub.com and xvideos.com had been forbidden, either through mobile phones or laptops. Users were redirected to a page notifying them of such a ban.”

The sites with adult content were supposedly blocked to help fight child pornography.

Internet users, however, are saying the sites are working just fine.

“I’m in (the) Philippines, PornHub and every other porn site have been working perfectly fine,” said a Reddit user 3 days ago.

Another Reddit user agreed saying, “I’m from the Philippines and both sites are not blocked.”

As of writing, the adult websites that can be accessed with no problems include Pornhub, RedTube, and Xvideos. It may be accessed in Makati, Mandaluyong and Quezon City via computers or phones.

So what happened to the ban? Perhaps this is a good reminder that band-aid solutions rarely work.
