May her soul rest in peace.
“On Sunday, January 18, Pope Francis led the youth and pilgrims in silent prayer at the University of Sto. Tomas for a young woman who died in Tacloban while in the midst of preparations for the mass with Yolanda survivors,” reports Ira Pedrasa on ABS-CBNnews.com.
The young woman was identified as Kristel Padasas.
The report noted: “A volunteer of the Catholic Relief Service, Kristel Padasas was killed when she got hit by scaffolding which fell from a portion of the stage set up for the event. Tacloban was battered by strong winds on Saturday, January 17, because of tropical storm Amang, which also forced Pope Francis to leave the area earlier than scheduled.”
Pope Francis was immediately informed of her death upon arriving in Manila.
“She was 27 years old, young like yourselves. I would like all of you, young like her, to pray for a moment of silence with me and to pray to Mama, our Lady in Heaven,” Pope Francis said to the mostly-young crowd at UST.
He also added, “Let us also pray for her parents. She was the only daughter. Her mom is coming from Hong Kong. Her father has come to Manila to wait.”
The Pope later reprotedly met Padasas’ father, Paulino, at the Apostolic Nunciature in Taft Avenue and offered him words of comfort.
