Pope envoy to International Eucharistic Congress hopes to see Cebu dancing inmates

The Burmese high churchman sent by Pope Francis to the 51st International Eucharistic Congress (IEC) in Cebu City will visit the popular Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) dancing inmates.

“Cebu Archbishop and IEC president Jose S. Palma revealed that no date has been set for the visit but Cardinal Charles Maung Bo, archbishop of Yangon, Myanmar, will definitely have a private audience with a select number of prisoners in on Jan 26,” reports Lito B. Zulueta in Philippine Daily Inquirer.

The repor noted: “On Sun, Jan 24, during the Mass opening the IEC on Plaza Independencia attended by 350,000 people, Cardinal Bo told the crowd, ‘Pope Francis loves you, especially Filipinos.’ He also referred to Cebu as ‘the cradle of Christianity in Asia.'”

Cardinal Bo will also visit a vocational school in Pasil, one of Cebu’s poorest villages.
