Police raid grocery’s Mandaluyong and Marikina branches for selling ‘fake’ luncheon meat

This news may boost the publicity for La Filipina Luncheon Meat, which honestly isn’t the first brand that comes to mind when you mention luncheon meat. (And, no, this is not a paid post or an ad disguised as news.)

“On Tuesday, September 23, police seized hundreds of cans of ‘fake’ La Filipina Luncheon meat products found in two branches of Easymart Superstore,” reports ABS-CBNnews.com.

The report noted: “Armed with a search warrant issued by Judge Rainelda Estacio-Montessa of the Manila Trial Court, the Anti-Fraud and Commercial Crimes Division of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) raided the Easymart Superstore branch in Mandaluyong City and the one inMarikina City.”

Police seized over 500 cans of luncheon meat bearing fake food labels.

According to Philippine Leading Infinite Logistics, Inc. (PLILI), the distributor of La Filipina Luncheon Meat, they had earlier complained that Easymart “has been selling canned goods bearing fake food labels that were confusingly similar to their La Filipina Luncheon Meat brand.”

Atty. Giancarlo Puyo, PLILI lawyer, pointed out that “the label, font, color, and photos of the Supreme Luncheon Meat canned goods sold in the mom and pop stores were almost similar to the La Filipina brand.”
