The National Capital Region Police Office has placed its personnel on heightened alert as a precautionary measure in light of the intense fighting in Mindanao which has dragged on for 11 days. Senior Superintendent Reuben Theodore Sindac, spokesperson of the Philippine National Police, says NCRPO chief Director Marcelo Garbo Jr. increased the alert status in Metro Manila which meant more police officers patrolling the streets. Aside from the lingering standoff between government forces and separatist rebels in Zamboanga, authorities are concerned about the effect of two blasts in Davao City malls and public anger against the P10-billion pork barrel scam. Sindac maintained the police haven’t received any information that indicates a specific threat in Metro Manila. Police officials in the capital were also asked to continuing conducting dialogues with Muslim communities in their areas to keep tabs with them. MM
