Police officer in charge of clearing Commonwealth Avenue street vendors shot dead

Can’t we just let the man do his job?

“A police officer who headed a task force to clear Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City of street vendors was killed in an ambush yesterday,” reports Reinir Padua in Philippine Star

SPO4 Edward Torio was shot 15 times by four men on motorcycles just as he was about to reach his office along Commonwealth Avenue. Torio had been tasked to keep the major thoroughfare free from illegal vendors along its sidewalks.

Chief Supt Richard Albano, the head of the Quezon City Police District, said the attack might be work-related, since the victim’s assignment carried a lot of risk

Investigators recovered 24 spent shells at the crime scene. The suspects may have also take away Torio’s service firearm as they escaped.
