Police nab murder suspect after 11 years

Roland Salazar, wanted for a murder in Nueva Ecija since 2002, was arrested by a police tracker team in Quezon City this week.

According to the Philippine National Police, Salazar is facing a murder charge for allegedly stabbing tricycle driver Leo Ramos after an altercation in Lupao, Nueva Ecija 11 years ago.

Ramos’s widow, who filed the complaint, said she saw her husband, his brothers, and Salazar arguing outside their house. “Salazar went home and returned carrying a pointed bladed weapon and…attacked and stabbed Leo Ramos in the chest and left arm causing his instantaneous death,” the PNP said.

A warrant was issued for his arrest but Salazar managed to hide in Quezon City and even found a job as a construction worker.

The PNP said the case was referred to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group several weeks ago, prompting the CIDG to organize a tracker team. “After several days of information gathering, there was a good tip on the location of the wanted person and, immediately, a daily surveillance and police operation was initiated.”

Members of the CIDG arrested Salazar in a house in North Fairview in Quezon City.
