Police ban caps in malls after Martilyo Gang attack

Why do we have to make so many adjustments to the way we live just because of criminals?

After the Martilyo Gang robbed the jewelry section of SM North EDSA’s department store on Dec 15, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has announced that mall-goers will no longer be permitted to wear caps. This is because at least one of the Martilyo Gang members was wearing a cap and police think this made him difficult to identify.

NCRPO chief Director Carmelo Valmoria made a statement in an interview over the weekend, reports Non Alquitran in The Philippine Star. The report quoted Valmoria as saying, “From now on, the wearing of caps would be banned in malls. Those wearing it would be advised to take it off and place or keep them inside their bags or in their pockets.”

The report added that “mall owners will display signs against the wearing of caps at entrances while security guards will strictly enforce the ban in a polite manner.” Valmoria explained that the ban on caps was suggested “during a series of meetings with mall operators and security managers in Metro Manila.”

So, if caps are to blame, how come nobody could identify the robbers who weren’t wearing caps either?
