Police arrest couple for inducing abortion

A couple were arrested in Pasay City on Sunday evening for inducing an abortion.

According to Hataw Tabloid, Bennie del Castillo brought his girlfriend Charlyn Barsaga to the Ospital ng Maynila Sunday evening for heavy bleeding after they induced the abortion of a four-month-old fetus.

The report quotes Senior Police Officer 1 Genomar Geraldino and Police Officer 3 Giovanni Arcinue as saying Barsaga took 16 Cytotec pills that the couple bought from a sidewalk vendor in Quiapo on Saturday evening.

Barsaga started bleeding on Sunday. The report said del Castillo cut the umbilical cord of the fetus himself before bringing his girlfriend to the hospital. She admitted to taking Cytotec, prompting the arrest.

Under the Revised Penal Code, it is illegal to intentionally induce an abortion.
