PNR train hits jeepney, 1 dead

What happens when a drunk jeepney driver decides to go his own way?

“At around 4:30pm on Monday, May 19, jeepney driver Ronald Valdez, 40,  who was allegedly intoxicated, ignored the traffic signals and drove across the railroad tracks along G. Tuazon street in Sampaloc, Manila,” reports Aie Balagtas See in The Philippine Star.

Unfortunately, a Philippine National Railways (PNR) was also passing through the tracks and hit the jeepney.

The report noted: “The train, which came from Tutuban, hit the jeepney (plate number PHR-125) and dragged it about 50 meters from the site of the collision.”

Jeepney passenger Reynaldo Mapagal, 56, a cigarette vendor, was declared dead on arrival at the Ospital ng Sampaloc. Meanwhile, Valdez, as well as passengers Jenalyn Hinuo, 21; Maricel Domingo, 34; Abegail Saldefar Cruz, 26; Emely Sugpatan, and an unidentified 17-year-old sustained head injuries.
