A total of 198,287 police personnel, or 89.26% of the force, have received Covid-19 vaccines as of Thursday, August 26, says a press release from the Philippine National Police (PNP).

A total of 93,725 or 42.19% have been fully vaccinated, while 104,562 or 47.07% have received the first dose. That leaves only 23,845, or 10.73%, who have not been vaccinated.

There are currently 1,750 active cases within the PNP, putting the overall total at 33,826.

While 94.5% have recovered, the death of a 34-year-old police staff sergeant on August 25 places the death toll due to the virus at 102.

Relaying a report from the Health Service, PNP Police General Guillermo Eleazar said that the officer died due to pneumonia and acute respiratory failure secondary to Covid-19. The staff sergeant was diagnosed on August 18 after experiencing mild symptoms.

However, the police officer complained of difficulty in breathing on August 20, and was admitted to a hospital. He died five days later.

“I send my sincere condolences to the family of our deceased police officer, and we promise to extend whatever help [is needed] to them,” Eleazar said in Filipino.
