“The Philippine National Police (PNP) revealed that Metro Manila’s crime rate dropped by 70% during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit,” reports Cecille Suerte Felipe in The Philippine Star.
Interior and Local Government Secretary Mel Senen Sarmiento, quoting a report from the PNP Directorate for Investigative and Detective Management (DIDM), said “there were only 282 crimes reported in Metro Manila from Nov 16 to 22.”
On the average, 919 crimes are reported per week in Metro Manila. .
The report noted: “The APEC summit, held from Nov. 17 to 20, was attended by close to 9,000 participants, including 21 heads of state.”
The report emphasized though that the pNP was already making headway in bringing down the crime rate via Oplan Lambat-Sibat.
