The Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) will implement a 30-second rule in apprehending erring motorists on EDSA, according to HPG director Chief Superintendent Arnold Gunnacao.
In a live interview on Bandila on Fri, Sep 4, Gunnacao said this measure is aimed at curbing bribery in imposing traffic violations.
HPG personnel are given only around 30 seconds to get an erring motorist’s license and issue traffic tickets.
Traffic personnel shall likewise also undergo periodic rotation to avoid familiarization among the HPG personnel and drivers regularly plying a certain route.
The HPG director also emphasized that the police group will be imposing stricter implementation of traffic rules.
Police personnel and motorists who will engage in bribery will be arrested, Gunnacao said.
About 150 personnel from the HPG will be deployed in six focal points, with a complement of 10 more personnel from police districts per focal point.
According to Gunnacao, HPG estimates that about 10 to 15 minutes will be reduced from a motorist’s travel time on EDSA when new measures are implemented.
