PNP encourages gay policemen to come out, suggests counseling

Some good intentions may be misinformed.

“The Philippine National Police (PNP) is encouraging gay policemen to come out in the open and Superintendent Lucio Rosaroso, acting chief of the Directorial Staff of the PNP Chaplain Service, says they will be invited for counseling,” reports Aaron B. Recuenco in Tempo.

Rosaroso explained, “There is really nothing wrong with that and the PNP itself does not discriminate. The problem starts when immorality is already involved.”

So, what does he mean by “immorality”? Does it cover accepting bribe money and other corrupt practices? If so, what does one’s sexual preference have to do with that?

Rosaroso reiterated that when immorality is in the picture, “the policeman involved will not only put himself in a disadvantage position but can also drag the police organization in a bad light.” Again, all police officers—whether gay or straight—will put the PNP in a bad light if they commit crimes or are remiss in their duties.

The report then noted: “Rosaroso, however, made it clear that they cannot force the policemen to reveal their sexual preferences.”

Uh, maybe Rosaroso should start counseling corrupt cops first.
