PNP Custodial Center warden fired from post

He’s still a cop, but now he’s technically not doing anything in that capacity.

“Superintendent Mario Malana, the warden of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Custodial Center, has been relieved from his post and now faces administrative charges for supposedly allowing detained Senator Jinggoy Estrada to hold a party from Saturday until the wee hours of Sunday, June 29, inside the facility,” reports ABS-CBN News correspondent Chiara Zambrano.

According to the report, the PNP Headquarters Support Service found probable cause to charge Malana with neglect of duty on two grounds:

1. Failure to implement the facility’s rules and regulations

2. Failure to inform higher headquarters of what happened on Saturday, June 28, when Estrada celebrated his wedding anniversary with his relatives and friends inside the custodial center

Malana is now on floating status, without pay or allowances, pending a hearing of his case. If proven guilty of the charge, Malana faces a suspension of a minimum of 30 days and a maximum of 59 days.

Superintendent Peter Limbauan has been tapped to replace him as warden at the PNP Custodial Center.
