The Philippine National Police is finally putting its foot down after a study among its ranks highlighted the increasing number of cops being slapped with administrative charges for failure to support their legal wife and their children.
In 2013 alone, 542 policemen were charged with abandonment and nonsupport, which, under the law covering government employees, are both grounds for administrative punishment. In 2012, 327 cases were reported.
“The worst part is that in some cases, both the legal wife and the other woman are filing complaints for abandonment or failure to give financial obligations,” reports Aaron B. Recuenco in Tempo.
This is why, as the report put it, “the PNP leadership is sending priests to all police stations nationwide to hold dialogues that seek to enlighten policemen who have gone astray.”
Superintendent Lucio Rosaroso, acting chief of the PNP Chaplain Service, said, “We are optimistic that this would be a big help to improve the moral and spiritual being of police personnel.”
So, how many of you think this will work?
