PNoy’s college yearbook writeup won’t probably make it to his tribute reel

If you somehow managed to get through college without immortalizing your cringey late-teenage years via your yearbook writeup, then you’re lucky.

Certainly luckier than former Philippine President Benigno “PNoy” Aquino III, whose writeup in the 1981 edition of Aegis, the yearbook for the Ateneo de Manila University, first made the rounds of social media during his last full year in office.

The former president, who graduated from the Ateneo in 1981 with a bachelor’s degree in economics, had this as his entry: “To be understood or misunderstood is not so much a struggle as it is to understand or misunderstand the longing for inner peace in each man’s heart. A sincere life is not to go above and beyond others and oneself, “…at high altitudes, a moment’s self-indulgence may mean death.” Should you ever come across me in your thoughts, never fail to include yourself, and your fellowmen, for in our longings, never at a moment forgetting one another, we together will struggle.”

The Ateneo University Archives confirmed that this is PNoy’s authentic yearbook entry. They did not offer comment about what it might have possibly meant.
