This issue has become a cross that we must all bear.
“President Noynoy Aquino rejected continuing calls from the Marcos family to allow President Ferdinand Marcos’ burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, with state honors befitting a former head of state and a decorated war hero,” reports Lynda Jumilla on ABS-CBNnews.com.
The report noted: “This September 28 will be the 25th death anniversary of Marcos, who died in Hawaii and whose remains are in a glass crypt in the Marcos mausoleum in Batac, Ilocos Norte.”
Aquino reasoned in Filipino, “If I am given the authority, I won’t volunteer to say that he should be buried (at the Libingan ng mga Bayani). I can’t explain to the people why he should be given that honor.”
Moreover, the report said that “Aquino cited doubts on Marcoses’ war exploits, alluding to an investigation decades ago that supposedly led to the conclusion that he was not the decorated military officer he claimed to be.”
Aquino also pointed out that Marcos stayed in power for two decades, thanks to his own imposition of martial law.
