We know what everyone’s thinking: Campaign crunch time calls for added intervention — divine or otherwise.
On Mon morning, May 2, President Noynoy Aquino arrived at the Iglesia ni Cristo central office on Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City.
Dennis Datu of dzMM shared video clips of the President’s convoy entering the Iglesia ni Cristo compound at around 9am and then leaving about an hour later.
“In an interview after his visit to the sect, the President revealed that he ‘personally spoke with INC executive minister Eduardo Manalo and thanked the latter for supporting the administration.’
“He added that he ‘shared with Manalo his vision for the country after he steps down from office on June 30,'” reports ABS-CBN News.
“As usual, maganda ang pagkatanggap sa atin ni Ka Eduardo (As usual, Ka Eduardo received me well), I have no complaints but to say thanks for all the support,” the President said.
Many politicians have openly sought the endorsement of the Iglesia ni Cristo, which practices bloc voting during the elections. A Pulse Asia report earlier said INC support could translate to around 1.5 to 1.8 million votes on Election Day, citing 2013 data.
All five presidential candidates — Vice-President Jejomar Binay, Senators Grace Poe and Miriam Defensor Santiago, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and ex-DILG chief Mar Roxas — have met with INC Executive Minister Eduardo V. Manalo to seek the church’s endorsement.
It may be recalled that the INC previously endorsed candidacies of President Aquino and his two predecessors, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and President Joseph Estrada. With an ABS-CBN report.
