PNoy: No credible terror threat in PH

On Fri, Jan 15, President Noynoy Aquino said there is no credible and imminent terror threat in the Philippines.

“In an interview, Aquino said that while there were Filipinos on social media who have identified themselves as members of the terror group Islamic State, these people never lived in the country,” reports ABS-CBN News.

Referring to the supposed Filipino members of the terrorirst group, Aquino pointed out: “One was in Saudi Arabia and another in Lebanon but they have never lived in the Philippines.”

Aquino explained that “government intelligence agencies are monitoring the possible entry of Islamic State militants in the Philippines and coordinating with other intelligence agencies.”

He stated, “May general threat, oo. Di naman tayo immune sa problema ng extremism pero lahat ng ating mga ahensya sa law enforcement, sa intel nakatutok sa problemang ito at pinipilit nating ma-thwart lahat ng potential na problema (Yes, there’s a general threat. We are not immune from the problem of extremism but all our law enforcement and intelligence agencies are monitoring this problem and are doing everything to thwart potential problems).”

That said, the Philippine National Police (PNP) is on full alert following the series of attacks in Jakarta, Indonesia that left seven people dead and 24 people seriously wounded.
