He’s standing by his man.
“In his agenda-setting dialogue with government officials on Friday, September 12, Aquino responded to those calling for the resignation of Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Alan Purisima following the kidnap-robbery incident along EDSA that involved cops,” reports Louis Bacani on Philstar.com.
Aquino defended Purisima, saying, “Let me ask you this: Is this the only time that scalawags are in police service? Yes, there are scalawags. But who caught the ‘hulidap’ crew on EDSA? Policemen also nabbed them.”
Aquino added: “Is it right to demand General Purisima’s resignation when he’s leading our police force in doing their job right?”
The report noted: “The President also pointed out that there have been ‘transformations’ among police ranks in terms of equipment, government welfare and work system under Purisima’s watch.”Aquino likewise cited “the arrests of fugitive Jovito Palparan, the Tiamzon couple of the New People’s Army, as well as some of the suspects in the killings of race car champ Enzo Pastor and hotel chain owner Richard King.”
