The crazy thing is, the park once had a very notorious nickname.
“Plaza de la Virgen—a park in Barangay 826, Pandacan, Manila, which was once tagged as ‘Plaza Disgrasya’—has been restored to its original form—a place where people can gather for public events like fiestas and masses,” reports Fran Katigbak in Philippine Daily Inquirer.
According to the report, the city’s previous administration had turned the park “into a playground with cage-like barricades which caused injuries among children.”
The report noted: “The plaza’s restoration was funded by Mayor Joseph Estrada who re-inaugurated it last week with Vice Mayor Isko Moreno.”
