This guy is loaded — with fake cash, that is.

A man was caught red-handed trying to buy a bus ticket with fake money in Pasay City yesterday.

Nurhan Mohammad Nur tried mixing in fake PHP500 (US$9.51) bills while buying a ticket to Davao City worth PHP2,500 (US$47.55) in the Grand Courier terminal in Pasay City at around 4:15pm yesterday, investigating officer SP03 Genomar Geraldino told Coconuts Manila in a phone interview.

According to Geraldino, the bills actually look legit at first look but ticket seller Enrico Cetienza noticed they were fake while processing the transaction. This prompted him to call a police officer who was patrolling the area at the time.

They then found out that Nur was in the possession of much more fake bills that amounted to about PHP48,000 (US$912.97). The cash came in the form of PHP1,000 (US$19.02), PHP500 (US$9.51), PHP200 (US$3.80), and PHP50 (US$.95) bills.

Multiple bills had the same serial number, Geraldino said.

They later found out that Nur had also used fake money when buying goods from vendors in the area.

The suspect is currently detained in the Pasay City Police Station’s investigation department and will be charged with violation of Article 168 of the Revised Penal Code or the illegal possession and use of false treasury or bank notes and other instruments of credit.
