“Is this an admission now that they are spying on a Cabinet member and a member of the Senate?”
This is the question of a pissed Alan Peter Cayetano on Fri, Oct 28, about some of the statements of outgoing US Ambassador to the Philippines Philip Goldberg.
In a recent ANC interview, Goldberg said, “I don’t think this has been revealed publicly but I know that Senator Cayetano made an unpublicized trip to China in June along with (Transportation) Secretary (Arthur) Tugade.”
Earlier this week, Tugade already denied going to China in June.
However, Cayetano admitted that he went to China but accused Goldberg of putting malice on his trip.
“What business does the US ambassador or any ambassador have monitoring his (Tugade) trips or criticize whether it is publicized or unpublicized?” Cayetano asked in an ABS-CBN News report.
“Was there anything wrong, malicious of me going to China? Is there anything fishy, suspicious? Wala (None), but the way he threw it in the interview was like he was parting shot.”
He said his next step is to write a letter of complaint to Foreign Affairs Secretary Perfecto Yasay Jr. about the outgoing ambassador.
Cayetano, the former vice presidential candidate of incumbent president Rodrigo Duterte, also clarified that unlike the president’s trips, his visit to China was unpublicized — much like the trips of other lower ranking officials.
Cayetano joined Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar and Presidential Spokesman Ernesto Abella on Fri, Oct 28, for a press conference.
