Pinoys in HK advised to avoid protest spots

It’s best to stay safe.

“The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong has advised the Filipino community and visiting Filipino nationals in Hong Kong to avoid areas where the protest actions are taking place in the Special Administrative Region of China to ensure safety and avoid being inadvertently perceived as being part of the protest actions,” reports Roy Mabasa in Manila Bulletin.

The Consulate said these areas in Hong Kong that should be avoided by Filipinos include the following:

1. Central

2. Admiralty

3. Tim Mei Avenue

4. Lung Wui Road

5. Causeway Bay

6. Mongkok

7. Wan Chai

8. The government headquarters in Tamar

The report added: “The Philippine Consulate noted that the Public Order Ordinance of Hong Kong takes disorder in public places seriously and anyone found guilty of an offense can be fined HK$5,000 (roughly PHP29,000) and/or imprisonment for 12 months.”

The report also indicated that “according to the Consulate, the protests in Hong Kong, dubbed Occupy Central, officially began on September 28” and “calls for universal suffrage in China’s special administrative region and former British colony.”
