A Filipino teacher at the William Paca Elementary School in Landover, Maryland was arrested Tuesday for allegedly sexually abusing his 9-year-old male student.

Erwin Magnaye, a 39-year-old from Laurel, Maryland, was charged with sexual abuse of a minor, second degree assault among other sex offenses, according to Prince George Police.

Authorities said the victim’s mother reported to police that Magnaye “kissed her son in a classroom” and had also “touched him inappropriately” a number of times beginning September last year.

Reports say that Magnaye has been under the surveillance of the Prince George Police Department for months prior to his arrest.

He was arrested this week after months of investigation and enough evidence were collected according to authorities.

Magnaye is now placed on administrative leave according to Prince George County School’s spokesperson.

Filipino Migrant Heritage Commission (MHC) in Washington DC said the Filipino organization is extending pro bono consultation services to Magnaye to ensure due process and afford him the opportunity to defend himself in courts.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Prince George’s County Police Department at 301-772-4930.
