Pinoy skater Michael Christian Martinez wows the crowd at Sochi

The best part of it is 17-year-old Filipino figure skater Michael Christian Martinez is moving on to the free skating medal round.

“Martinez already made history on Thursday night, Feb 13, after competing in the short program in the men’s event in the 2014 Sochi Winter Games,” reports InterAksyon.com.

The report said that Martinez was hailed by the television commentators as “a really entertaining skater.” Others praised his charisma and flexibility. To top it all off, Martinez is the first figure skater ever to represent a Southeast Asian country in the Winter Olympics.

Skating to “Romeo and Juliet” by Arthur Fiedler, Martinez scored 64.81, his best of the skating season. It was good enough for him to advance to the free program or “medal round” on Friday, Feb 14.
