Our love for pirated goods knows no boundaries.
“On Wednesday, May 14, Authorities checked out thousands of Filipino videos at a Pinoy-owned store along a Long Beach, California, mall as part of an anti-piracy campaign,” reports Steve Angeles on ABS-CBNnews.com.
A team of 10 including sheriff deputies and undercover investigators descended upon the store. They went through thousands of discs, as well as copying machines which they say produced the bootleg videos.
About 4,500 DVDs worth close to about $100,000 were seized. Investigator Kris Buckner was quoted as saying, “I would say this is a mid-level distribution and manufacturing operation. This isn’t a large scale operating facility, but we can’t be deceived by the small mom-and-pop type of shop because the amount of parts you can mass produce in a very short period of time is really incredible.”
The report revealed that “one unidentified Filipina was arrested during the raid while an arrest warrant was issued for the store’s owner Filipino, Fernando Legaspi Bernabe, who attempted to run for the Long Beach City council four years ago.”
