That was probably the biggest night of Jerald Acoba’s life.
The 30-year-old Lakers fan hit a half-court shot for US$95,000 (nearly PHP5 million) during a Los Angeles Lakers game at Staples Center on Tue night (Wed in Manila).
Acoba made the winning shot between the third and fourth quarters as part of the Aria Big Shot Jackpot, NBA.com reports.
“I’m gonna buy my mom a car,” Acoba replied when asked what he will do with the cash. Acoba is from Tulare, California but he identifies himself as Filipino on his Instagram account.
Acoba did the “ice in his veins” celebration after making the shot.
The Lakers themselves celebrated with the big winner. He got high fives from Nick Young, Julius Randle and D’Angelo Russel.
“I’d like to thank everyone who prayed and believed in me. Thanks for the continued love and support, still feels like a dream,” Acoba wrote on his Instagram account.
The Lakers beat the Memphis Grizzlies, 116-102.
