A Filipino food truck in Vancouver is gaining popularity with its take on Pinoy cuisine.

Chef Jordan Oregas went to cooking school after discovering his passion for food. He worked for a trendy Vancouver restaurant for years, but the Pinoy chef longed for a better quality life with his family.

In 2012, Oregas decided to put up his own food truck with long-time friend, Jeff, as business partner.

His Pinoy food menu is simple but delicious.

“I stick with Filipino. I don’t mess with Filipino food. I like Filipino food like the way it is. The fusion stuff, I’ll let the new guys do that,” said Oregas, of JJ’s Trucketeria.

JJ’s Trucketeria’s bestseller is the pork barbecue with garlic fried rice and egg.

Chef Jordan’s signature “panwich” is his version of the popular Pinoy pandesal.

For the health conscious, he prepares a medley of fresh vegetables, brown rice, chickpeas and JJ’s special sauce.

Oregas said Filipinos who want to venture into the food truck business should be ready for hard work.

“People think I only work for 4 hours a day. That’s not true. I cut 300 pounds of pork butt; 300 pounds that’s like Shaquille O’Neal in 3 days and that’s a lot of work,” he explained.

Behind Chef Jordan’s success is his wife, Emma, who makes sure that he has a work-life balance.

“This is what he’s always wanted so I’m just happy that I’m able to help him as much as I can,” she said. (Read more from Balitang America.)
