Ping wants more powers as rehab czar

After submitted the 8,000-page master plan for rehabilitating the areas hit by Typhoon Yolanda last week, Presidential Assistant for Rehabilitation and Recovery (PARR) Ping Lacson is set to ask President Benigno Aquino III to give him implementing powers.

“Lacson explained that his current role as rehabilitation czar is limited to monitoring and reporting updates in Yolanda-hit areas,” reports ABS-CBNnews.com.

In an interview on ANC, Lacson said, “As it is now my role as overseer is only as good as your role in the media, as good as NGOs, and any private individual. Because my role is just to observe, monitor and report. Now I want to have that defined and clarified.”

According to the report, Lacson believes around 85 percent of the plan will be finished by 2016.

Let’s all take note that Yolanda hit the country back in November 2013. That sure seems like an awful long time. (Emphasis on “awful.”)
