SEA Games winner Jasmine Alkhaldi gives up gold medal, gets bronze in “re-race”

UPDATE (Dec 14). “Filipina swimmer Jasmine Alkhaldi won first place in the Southeast Asian Games for the 100-meter race, but was stripped of the gold medal following a protest from Thai officials,” reports ABS-CBNnews.com.

Right after the awarding ceremony, Alkhaldi’s win was forfeited because Thailand’s camp protested about a “false start.” The organizers upheld the protest, so a “re-race” was set on Friday, Dec 13 at 7:30 pm Manila time.

In the re-race, Alkhaldi ended up with the bronze medal. Nathanan Junkrajang of Thailand bagged the gold medal, while Tien Wen Quah of Singapore got the silver medal.
