For 20 years, a Filipina named Vilma Miel worked as a cage cashier at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. A cage cashier is tasked with performing a variety of transactions in a casino and handling any required paperwork connected to the said transactions.
However, according to a TMZ report, Miel said that her supervisor began harassing her in 2014. Among the things that the supervisor supposedly did was to call her an “old woman.” He also allegedly told her that “Filipinos originated from monkeys.”
Then, in 2015, right around Chinese New Year (Feb 19), Miel said she developed carpal tunnel syndrome. Thus, Miel said she went home to the Philippines to get treatment. By the time she came back to Las Vegas, she found out that she had been suspended from her job. She was ultimately fired.
Now, Miel is suing her former employers for “discrimination based on national origin, age, and disability.”
