A horrifying incident at Westfield Hornsby in New South Wales, Australia, has left one man dead and 39-year-old Filipina Jovi Pilapil injured.
The pair were attacked by Pilapil’s ex-husband, Alexander Luna, while they were out on their first date at a Korean restaurant.
On Mar 30, Wed night, diners at the Kagam Korean Barbecue were disturbed as Mr. Villaluna walked into the restaurant, stabbed Pilapil on the chest and then also stabbed her date, Keith Collins, according to The Sydney Morning Herald.
The 53-year-old Irishman died on the spot with wounds on his neck and throat. Pilapil was able to run to an upstairs store where she collapsed.
Villaluna did not even attempt to flee the crime scene, according to witnesses. He surrendered without incident inside the BBQ restaurant.
On Mar 31, Villaluna was charged with murder and attempted murder. He did not post bail at the local court.
The Filipina nurse had just taken an apprehended violence order against her Luna. They seperated earlier this year, and Pilapil was left to care for their three children.
The crime was described by Detective Acting Superintendent Damian Henry as something “out of character for that area”.
Pilapil’s brother was in shock, but her family is thankful that she is safe.
“They told me she was stabbed and she broke something and she was very lucky it did not hit her lungs and heart. We were very grateful. We were here in the church thanking that she wasn’t badly injured,” he told the Daily Telegraph.
