PHP17.5 million worth of medicine rotting in DOH storage room

Oh, what a waste.

“According to the Commission on Audit (COA), more than PHP17.5 million worth of medicine procured by the Department of Health (DOH) in 2012 and in previous years have reportedly expired and are rotting in the agency’s storage room,” reports Michael Punongbayan in The Philippine Star.

In statement released on Wednesday, Nov 27, the COA auditors explained that “the purchase of medicine and medical supplies by the DOH exceeded the normal three-month requirement.”

Meanwhile, DOH Undersecretary Ted Herbosa said “they have no knowledge on the matter as they have yet to receive the COA report.” Herbosa also theorized that the alleged expired drugs were probably bought during the previous administration.
