Everyone wants to make a killing during the holidays—but selling Christmas lights that may cause fires will definitely put you on Santa’s naughty list.
“By virtue of a search warrant, National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) agents inspected the warehouse of Great Circles Trading along Barraca Street in Binondo on Wednesday, Nov 20, and seized around PHP15 million worth of fake Christmas lights,” reports ABS-CBNNews.com.
Needless to say, the faux holiday lights weren’t properly labeled or packaged and didn’t have import commodity clearance (ICC) stickers. However, Atty. Marsha Esturas, lawyer for Great Circles Trading, asserted that they have ICC stickers. It’s just that they haven’t gotten around to attaching them to the Christmas lights.
Nevertheless, as the report revealed, “charges of violating Republic Act 7394 or the Consumer Act of the Philippines will be filed against Great Circles Trading. “
