Photos from a flooded metropolis

A rainy and cloudy Monday morning greeted me as I switched my radio to an AM station. It was all over the news: the metropolis was flooded by rain caused by Habagat.

The street outside our house was flooded too, so, I decided to walk through the rain and flood to nearby Alabang-Zabote Road, where the flooding was worst.

Three cigarettes later and with my camera strapped to my neck, I see people walking in the flood water. They were either going to work or coming back to their houses.

Commuters were stranded along with light vehicles, some of which were already floating in the flood.

Only trucks were tall enough to get through the floods. Seeing a garbage truck loaded with stranded commuters, I took a chance and climbed aboard to see things from a different perspective.

As we pass, I see a girl holding on to a rope, and fighting against the current along a side street leading to a residential area.

I see a man holding an image of the Sto.Nino braving the flood, destination unknown.

I see a father trying to help his son reach someone else to hold on to.

I see a truck full of commuters and a thoroughfare full of water.

More stranded commuters.

These are just few of the images recorded in my camera. On my way back, I saw a man on top of his vehicle, guarding it in the chilling weather.  Sad but true, the unsolvable realities of the problems of this metropolis.
