If you do the crime, then be prepared to do the time…or, at the very least, pay the fine.
“A commercial photographer identified as Michael Sy Yu, 35, is facing a maximum penalty of PHP500,000 for using an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in a no-fly zone last Saturday, January 17,” reports Raoul Esperas on ABS-CBNnews.com.
According to General Rodante Joya, deputy director general for operations of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), Yu, is owner of iSnap Creatives Inc., which uses the UAV in his commercial photography business.
Joya said Yu, whom they verified as the UAV operator, “blatantly violated the no-fly zone being implemented by CAAP during the five-day visit of Pope Francis.”
The report noted: “Yu’s drone was confiscated by Manila police after he failed to present any clearance or registration to operate the UAV. Joya said Yu will undergo investigation and given a chance to explain why he used the drone in a no-fly zone during the Pope’s visit.”
Joya likewise revealed that “aside from Yu, there are two other drone operators who were apprehended during the procession of the Black Nazarene earlier this month.”
Joya explained that they are “strictly enforcing the regulation to avoid accident and maintain a safer air space.”
