Malacañang Palace released a photo yesterday of President Rodrigo Duterte shooting a rifle supposedly aimed at Maute terrorists who have been locked in an armed battle with government troops since last May.
But according to a press release by Malacañang Palace, Duterte did not actually hit any terrorists.
The photo was taken during the president’s third visit to the city. In a speech delivered before state troops, the president promised to end the crisis as soon as possible.
The press release also mentioned that Duterte went against the advice of security officials and insisted on stopping outside of the safe zone to inspect the damage.
“We have to end it the way it should be and like I said during my earlier pronouncement, we will not stop until the last terrorist is neutralized,” Duterte said.
“Once the situation is neutralized we will make sure that we will look for the money to rehabilitate Marawi,” he added.
According to latest figures released by the military, over 769 people have been killed since the fighting begun.
