PHLPost to honor Robredo with a commemorative stamp

The Philippine Postal Corp. will be issuing a stamp in honor of the late Local Government secretary Jesse Robredo.

The stamp will be launched on May 27, Robredo’s birthday. It will also coincide with a thanksgiving event for his widow Camarines Sur representative-elect Leni Robredo.

“The Jesse M. Robredo commemorative stamp is a fitting tribute to a humble leader, a dear friend and a great public servant whose life and legacy shall be a source of inspiration and pride by every common Filipino,”
postmaster general Josefina Dela Cruz said in a statement.

The stamp will show Robredo with a picture of late President Manuel L. Quezon and the Quezon Service Cross that Robredo was awarded posthumously.

Robredo was mayor of Naga City for 19 years and had a reputation for humble service and for adherence to the law. He was appointed secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government in 2010.

He died in August 2012 after a chartered plane he was in crashed off the coast of Masbate island.

President Benigno Aquino III went to Masbate to personally check on search-and-rescue operations.
