PHIVOLCS questionnaire: Can your house take an earthquake?

Got a tip? Send it to us at manila@coconuts.co.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has a free questionnaire that can help you check if your house is ready for a strong earthquake.

The 12-point questionnaire was launched last February in partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

It contains questions like:
-Who built or designed my house?
-How old is my house?
-What is the shape of my house?
-Has my house been extended or expanded?

Each answer is equivalent to a point. The total number of points earned determines the strength or vulnerability of the structure.

PHIVOLCS says the questionnaire is not just useful for homeowners but also for local engineers, building officials, and LGUs.

You can download the full questionnaire, for free, here.
