PhilSys national ID registration is free, and social media accounts charging fees are scamming you

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) has reminded the public that registering for the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) is free, and that social media accounts charging a processing fee are scams.

“PhilSys registration is FREE. Even the PhilID (Philippine Identification) card is delivered directly to you by PHLPost (Philippine Post),” reads the post on the official PSA Facebook account, which went on to ask people to “avoid and report” pages that pretend to be associated with the government agencies, especially if they charge for online registration.

The post identified one of the fake Facebook pages as National ID Online Registration. “PSA is engaging with the right authority to give it the rightful action. This is the only and official PhilSys Facebook page: fb.com/PSAPhilSysOfficial,” the PSA post read.

PSA also advised registrants to personally undergo online Step 1 demographic registration and avoid “stranger registration”, which may result in identity theft.
