Philippines closer to having fighter jets

The Department of National Defense is finalizing the Terms of Reference for its purchase of 12 FA-50 Golden Eagle fighter jets from South Korea.

According to the Philippine Information Agency, the TOR may be completed this month, moving the P18-billion aircraft purchase forward. The TOR is a document that specifies the technical features that the Philippines requires and sets the price, payment scheme, and delivery schedule of purchased equipment.

Defense undersecretary Fernando Manalo said the purchase of the jets is a priority. Also a priority is the purchase of 21 UH-1 helicopters for P1.26 billion. That deal is expected to be finalized in July.
