Yesterday, the Philippines began administering second booster doses against COVID-19 for immunocompromised adults to further strengthen their protection against the virus.
The Department of Health (DOH) defines immunocompromised individuals as those with immunodeficiency, HIV-positive individuals, cancer patients, organ transplant recipients, patients taking immunosuppressive drugs such as steroids, and bedridden patients.
DOH expects between 7,000 to 13,000 immunocompromised individuals to receive their jabs in the first week.
Individuals must have had their first booster dose at least three months prior to be eligible.
The booster doses may be carried out in medical clinics, hospitals and HIV treatment hubs, as well as through house-to-house vaccinations, the health department added.
DOH advised Filipinos to get in touch with their local government units to find out how to register for the second booster shot and to bring their vaccination card, valid IDs, and medical certificate to the vaccination site.
