Philippines off to bad start in Homeless World Cup

The Philippines lost their first three football matches at the 2013 Homeless World Cup in Poznan, Poland.

Romania beat Rudy del Rosario’s men 11-2 on Sunday before they lost to both Slovenia 8-4 and Austria 4-1 on Monday.

Over 70 nations take part in the event and the Filipinos are in Group E with Romania, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Belgium and Austria.

The aim of the Homeless World Cup, which started in 2002 as an initiative of the International Network of Street Papers in Cape Town, South Africa, is to raise public awareness about homelessness and to provide support to grassroots soccer programs and social enterprise development.

The Homeless World Cup runs from August 11 to 18 and the Philippines are ranked 15th out of the 75 competing nations.
