First off, the flight’s 160 passengers and 10 crew members are unharmed.
“An Airbus 320 plane of Philippine Airlines (PAL) from Nagoya, Japan made an emergency landing at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 at 1:32 p.m. on Friday, November 14,” reports Raoul Esperas on ABS-CBNnews.com.
The report said that “PAL flight PR 437 was about 8,000 feet above ground level and 15 nautical miles east of Metro Manila when the plane experienced problems in one of its engines.”
Pilot Captain Mercurion Fernandez and flight officer Ryan Surla informed the Manila control tower of their situation and declared emergency status at 1pm.
The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) then immediately dispatched fire and rescue personnel along the runway.
The plane landed safely.
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) is now conducting an investigation on the cause of the plane’s engine malfunction.
