The Philippines’ flag carrier is flying high this week after it was named one of the top 50 best airlines in the world.
On Tuesday, United Kingdom-based consultancy firm Skytrax released its annual list of the world’s best airlines where Philippine Airlines (PAL) ranks #49.
Though at the bottom part of the top 50, this is a big improvement for PAL which was at the 67th spot last year.
Included in the top 10 are:
- Singapore Airlines
- Qatar Airways
- ANA All Nippon Airways
- Emirates
- EVA Air
- Cathay Pacific Airways
- Lufthansa
- Hainan Airlines
- Garuda Indonesia
- Thai Airways
Skytrax’s ranking is based on answers from more than 20 million survey respondents from over 100 nationalities.
PAL was also ranked by Skytrax as the #2 most improved airline for the year. This comes five months after it was certified as the country’s first 4-star airline, also by Skytrax.
But it hasn’t always been smooth sailing (well, in this case, flying rather) for the airline.
In 2016, American model Karlie Kloss blasted PAL on Snapchat and said that it had the “worst customer service of all time.”
In May, PAL was also included in the Labor Department’s list of top 20 companies that have been found or are suspected of engaging in labor-only contracting.
