This is awesome news that should end women’s month with a bang — at least for the Philippines.

According to MasterCard’s latest Index of Women’s Advancement, the Philippines has the highest ratio of female-to-male business leaders for the ninth consecutive year. Not very surprising, given that 3 Pinays were recently included in Forbes magazine’s 2015 list of “most powerful businesswomen in Asia.”

“Women in the majority of markets across Asia Pacific are lagging behind in business leadship despite their educational qualification,” notes the report on its website.

The Index measures the socioeconomic standing of women across 16 markets in the Asia Pacific. It looks at three things: employment, capability, and leadership.

“Scores of each country are indexed to 100 males to indicate how close or how far women are in achieving socioeconomic partiy with men,” the report explains. A score of 100 means there is equality between genders, while a score under 100 means the men are still lording it over.

While the Philippines ranked 4th with in the over all index score (72.6), we tied with New Zealand, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, and Thailand in meeting a score of 100 in secondary and tertiary institutions.

The report continues: “New Zealand (50.6) and the Philippines (50.1) are the only two markets with more than 50 women business owners/leaders/government leaders for every 100 male business owners/leaders/government leaders.”

Along with Singapore and Indonesia, the Philippines show the most marked advancement in women’s leadership since 2007. Our index point rose by 12.2% since 2007.

“Filipino women have excelled the most in politics, with the ratio of female-to-male politicians doubled inform 18.2 in 2007 to 37.3 in 2015.”
